The "Ocean Friendly Establishment" (OFE) is a community-based certification earned by businesses that reduce their plastic waste and seek out sustainable options in serving their community. The OFE initiative, launched in 2015, started locally on the east coast of North Carolina. It has since spread all over North Carolina, up the east coast, and even as far west as Oregon.

We're passionate and committed to helping businesses reduce their waste and keep the ocean clean. Will you join us?
With concerns for the overwhelming amount of plastic waste and pollution, OFE offers certification and prestige to both restaurants and retail businesses that reduce plastic waste and demonstrate environmentally-conscious practices. This is a self-regulated initiative, and businesses are encouraged to keep their employees informed and adhering to the initiative.
*Please note, that while the names and programs are similar, the Ocean Friendly Establishments campaign, which is sponsored by Plastic Ocean Project, INC. is separate and independent of Surfrider's Ocean Friendly Restaurants initiative. If you own a restaurant, then your business may be certified by both! Each certification distinguishes your business as one that implements practices that protect the environment.*
